Cobb Field -- 2004-04-24
Cobb Field is named after the man who owned the Brown Derby restaurant in Los Angeles, and not Ty Cobb as I always assumed growing up. Cobb was one of the original investors in the Mustangs.
It's a lovely little park, with a great view of the Rimrocks (sandstone cliffs that run along the northern edge of the city).
Billings is the largest city in a huge radius, so you will get larger crowds than at a typical rookie league game. Billings would probably have a single A team if it weren't for the great distances to other cities that could support such a team.
Seating is not particularly comfortable. Other than the box seats, it is all aluminum benches. Only close to home plate do those benches have backs. Many people bring cushions. The seats near home are also covered, which the rest are not. That's handy during the common late-summer thunderstorms.
For a night game, bring a jacket. Even on the hottest summer day, it gets quite cool in the evening.
There's not much for public transportation in Billings, but if you are in a hotel near downtown, a cab ride is cheap. For parking, try on the street in the neighborhoods beyond centerfield. There is a small parking lot, but foul balls can land there, so you might not want to risk a broken window.
Concessions are limited. Usually there is a barbecue going out in front of the stadium, right by the ticket booths.
For eating before and after the game, the only handy restaurant is a 24-hour Perkins (like Denny's) across the street.
