Citizens Bank Park itinerary by Wise Guides

Citizens Bank Park is a part of Philadelphia's South Side stadium complex but the spot is somewhat remote and is surrounded by parking lots. For this reason, many fans tailgate before games, so expect to smell homemade Philly cheesesteaks and other delicacies being grilled up. ... Instead of the homemade variety, though, hit Geno's and Pat's on your way to the game and pick up cheesesteaks at both famous joints, located across the street from each other. This will allow you to join in one of the longest running debates in the City of Brotherly Love: Who has the better cheesesteaks? ... If you don't want to join a tailgate or need a break from the scene, head across Broad Street to Chickie's and Pete's for their famous Crab Fries and to have a drink with Phils' fans. They may be a happy and optimistic bunch, unusual for Philly fans, after the world title in 2008. ... The food at Citizens Bank has earned recognition as some of the best ballpark grub anywhere, and many local favorites are offered. At some point during the game head to Ashburn Alley beyond the outfield wall, named for one-time Phils great Richie Ashburn. It's another former fan favorite, however, who has the most popular stand here: Bull's BBQ. It offers barbequed pork, beef, turkey and ribs, and Greg 'The Bull' Luzinski, a Phillies slugger from the 1970s, is often on hand. ... As the final out is recorded and the Liberty Bell in center field rings, head to McFadden's Restaurant & Saloon to wait out the traffic. It's connected to the park and stays open after the game. ... Close out the day by exploring Center City Philadelphia, a short cab/car/train ride away and bustling with activity well into the night. Chestnut and Walnut streets are both lively, as is famous South Street with its unique shops, cafes, bars and restaurants.

    Great ballpark but........ -- 2008-01-12

I started going to Phillies games in 1980 at the age of 7 and I miss the Vet, but CBP is a great place to catch a game. Just a beautiful place with great sight lines, great food, easy parking and really not a bad seat in the house. My only problem with CBP is that too many young people (mainly college age kids and young adults) now attend the game in order to hang out, drink, curse and act like idiots. There are always fights and arguments going on in the upper decks where most of the younger crowd purchases tickets. My wife and I have a 2 year old and will not sit up there with him. We will only sit closer to the field where the fans are baseball fans that act mature and with class. Prior to the game the scoreboard announces that any foul language used by fans will result in an automatic ejection. Well I haven't seen that yet. Heck the ushers don't do anything about it. Unfortunately this blemish really tarnishes my experience at the ballpark for I really never had to deal with this problem at the Vet. Phillies organization needs to get its act together in regards to this.

The food is also terrific: i recommend the following on a hot day: walk in the first base entrance, grab a water ice to cool down (mango, lemon, cherry)its straight ahead may repeat as often as necessary grab a beverage if you still have time before the game starts or head out during the bottom of the phillies lineup (789) when there at bat, go over to bull's bbq in center field, and get a few of the sandwiches, there all fantastic and grab some crab fries at chickie and pete's

Better than the Vet -- 2006-06-28

This stadium is way better than the Vet, that is for sure. Defently one of the nicer (though not the nicest) parks in baseball right now. A little pricey for some (not all) seats though when you compare it to comparable seats at other parks (For instance, there are upper deck seats that are about $20 where Oriole Park's upper deck seats usually range from $10-$15.

Also, if you do plan on getting seats on the scoreboard porch, be prepared to keep keen attention to who has entered the game, as the sound systems in those sections are more a muffled mess. Other than that, everything else here is good. Also, if you do catch a baseball during batting practice here, you get a T-shirt.

    Worth the wait -- 2005-10-21

For those of us who have waited all those years at the vet. A beautiful home to call ours. My Country and My People

    Great Place for a game -- 2005-06-23

I live on Long Island, NY, but would rather drive the 120 miles to CBP than the 15 miles to Shea Stadium. Very intimate feel, although it is a ban box, great places to eat, lots to do before and after the game.

    Prices are reasonable as well!
