Nice Park -- 2006-05-29
New ownership has done alot of a good. A very nice place to see a ballgame. There's nothing in the immediate (1-2 block) area, but its a short (10 min?) walk from downtown South Bend with plenty of cafes and bars.

Disgustingly dirty. Bathrooms are wet, damp, & dirty. Concession stands are barely open. A large soft drink comes in a wax cup, which collapses & spills after your kids pass it back & forth a few times.
The nachos are a joke! A bag of Tostitos and some Cheeze Whiz. So you have empty Tostitos bags blowing all over the place by the 5th inning.
I don't recommend this dump at all. This used to be a crown jewel of the MWL. What a shame.

The Cove -- 2003-07-26
Hey guys, the Cove is not that hard to find! Just follow Main St. all the way through town. It is right on the edge of downtown next to a train station and a vacant Studebaker? plant which add a unique charm. Scary neighborhood? Have you been to Columbus? Besides, the College Football Hall of Fame is only blocks away. I noticed a larger minority and youth audience than in other parks. This is nice and rare to see! The Cove features large grassy areas down the lines which are crammed with kids and waiting gloves. I caught a ball and gave it a little girl there. It made her and my day!

Sad -- 2003-03-04
The franchise has really gone down hill in the past couple of years. The team is in debt to the city and the ownership groups doesn't seem to care about keeping up the stadium's appearance. I hit about 10 games a year so I got to watch the slow, sad digression: standing water in the seating area, sticky floors, painfully slow concessions, wasps and fairly surly employees. I don't think I'll be returning the future, and I'm not the only one, attendence has been poor, even on some of the $1 nights.

It *IS* difficult to find -- 2002-01-07
We drove out to South Bend from Chicago, and spent almost as much time driving around town looking for the ballpark as we did on the tollway. Once we got there, we got the rare treat of having the game start about an hour late because the Peoria Chiefs hadn't made it into town yet.
Once things got started, we enjoyed the game. I won a gift certificate to a sporting goods store in town, which I passed along to a family with 4 kids sitting nearby. The people were friendly, and they know their baseball, too. The ballpark is clean and well-kept, even if it is a little hard to locate!

South Bend's stadium is located in a bleak industrial district, a little bit challenging to find your way into the (pay) parking lot. Didn't look like a neighborhood where you would want to walk several blocks to your car after the game. No restaurants within walking distance. Monday is buck-night: tickets, beer and hot dogs are a dollar each. Basicly, it's a pretty vanilla baseball experience, but what the hay, a lot of people live in South Bend, and this is their baseball. Who knows---it might be the highlight of your visit to Indiana.
