more on Elfstrom Stadium -- 2007-05-06
no comments here lately, so I'll do my best to add a bit. Over the next year or so, they will be adding suites to Elfstrom Stadium. They are hosting the Midwest League All-Star game in June 2007. Kane County always seems to draw well, although it is worthwhile to know that there is no shelter from the elements. We've gotten caught in a couple of gigantic rainstorms there, and, unless you're in the bathrooms, you're going to get wet! The food is fine, but nothing really spectacular. We've stayed at the team hotel in the past, but it was mediocre. I'd suggest staying at the Hilton Garden Inn in St Charles(?) as it is newer and brighter. There is now a great outlet mall right off of I-88 south of the stadium as well (my favorite store is Le Cruset, just because there aren't many of those around) so that's a good place to spend the afternoon before going to the ballpark.Karen MacKenzie
Not a bad park -- 2002-12-11
The Cougars do a pretty good job of putting a competitive team on the field. Up to this past season, they were affiliated with the Marlins, but just changed to the Athletics.
The food is pretty good, and the people who work for the team go out of their way to be helpful. I've never had a bad time at the ballgame here, even the my first night out after a heart attack while we sat in the rain!
By the way, the park isn't in the county fairgrounds. The Kane County Fairgrounds are in St. Charles, a few miles away. It's relatively easy to reach off of I-355, too.....just take IL-38 (Roosevelt Rd.) west, and turn left on Kirk Road. The parking lot is the first right.

Generic Suburban Minor League Experience -- 2002-08-20
Philip B. Elfstrom Stadium, which is one of the first minor-league stadiums to be successful in a major-league metropolitan area (Chicago), is to me as bland as shopping malls and suburban housing developments. The stadium is located about as close to Wrigley Field and Comiskey Park as regulations permit; and, perhaps because of that, lacks character. The stadium is set back in a county park (the county fairgrounds) and has few individual features. Parking is plentiful, but not easy to navigate out of (even on a May weeknight) and the stadium is not really easy to get to, being several miles away from the nearest expressways. As at all minor league parks, the staff and fellow fans are friendly; I did have a good time. But there's really no reason to go there unless you live in northeastern Illinois and don't want to go into Chicago.

The Best -- 2002-01-15
Easily and by-far the best minor league ball park in the country. Just a great experience all around.
The Cougars Experience -- 2001-05-18
The Kane County Cougars routinely win awards for being the best professional baseball experience. I don't have much argument with that view. They are a single-A franchise for the Florida Marlins, and they play in a nice field with easy parking. They always make the experience enjoyable, with all the between-inning entertainment you love about minor-league ball, good sight lines and you can even watch the game from a hot-tub in the outfield.
What really sets the Cougars experience apart in my mind is the food. Lots of local restaraunts have outlets there and the food is really out of this world.
A great time.
