now Alliant Energy Field -- 2007-05-06

Riverview Stadium got renamed Alliant Energy Field a few years back. The riverboat is still there, and is good for brunch before a Sunday afternoon game. Upgrades to the stadium were made after the 2005 season, and primarily looked to include new box seating (I think the previous wood seats were original to the park from the 1930s!) Seats are now the normal plastic variety and you don't have to contend with every other one being broken any longer, as you did with the old wooden ones. Other upgrades seemed to be in the clubhouse area - more, better bathrooms, a larger souvenir area & ticket window area and new home team clubhouse. The visiting team dugout is now on the first base side and is preferable to those that like the shade for an afternoon game. Food at the stadium is good - my husband's favorite is the "garbage pail" which is pretty well every fried food known to mankind but I'm a big fan of the kettlecorn that is made fresh and sold on the 3rd base side. Staff is friendly (even to those of us who come to cheer on the opposing team!) If you're looking for somewhere to stay in Clinton, I would recommend the Holiday Inn Express. While it is not the team hotel, it is worth the extra for warm breakfast in the morning. For lunch or dinner in town, Rastrelli's is a nice local Italian place - I had pizza for lunch and it was yummy.

My First Live Professional Baseball -- 2003-01-08

Riverfront Stadium is a great place to see a game. It's right on the shores of the mighty Mississippi, as the name would imply. There is plenty of good parking, a riverboat casino is nearby for entertainment after the game.

Clinton has long supported Minor League Baseball even though it is one of the five or so smallest markets in the country with a team. I used to go to games with my Grandparents when general admission was $2, and you could upgrade to a box seat for a whole extra $1. I don't think it's quite as cheap as $3 for a box seat any more, but it is still baseball as it was meant to be.

    Oops I think I called Riverview ... -- 2003-01-08

I recently sent a comment on Riverview Stadium, but I think I may have absent-mindedly referred to it as Riverfront Stadium. If you use my comment, please change it to Riverview, if I did indeed make this mistake. Thank you.

Cool old field. Watch infield practice. Errant throws from the second baseman can sail over the firstsacker and go right in the first base line dugout. I played here in college, and this almost started numerous fights.

    I saw a perfect game there! -- 2001-09-06

Clinton was a special place for me, because I saw Scott Dunn pitch his perfect game against the Lugnuts there in 2000. A baseball experience of a lifetime. The Clinton balpark is right on the river, sharing its parking lot with the Riverboat Casino. One of the older parks (1937), it has that nice old 50's feel about it. Nice small town, easy-in-easy-out of the parking lot.
