Museum -- 2005-11-28
Really cool place for baseball history buffs. Be sure to allow time to watch the movies, they're pretty interesting (if you overlook the shameless plug). The museum itself is broken down into 4 parts. Part one is the films. They're good, nothing special, but good. Think Ken Burns baseball if it were 12 minutes long. The 2nd part is the museum. It's Cooperstown light. Memorabilia and artifacts from throughout the ages. There's one spot where you can "stand in the box" against some of the best pitchers in the game, and a computerized pitching machine simulates the speed and movement of some of the greatest pitchers in history. The third part is the actual factory tour. It's very short and you don't get to touch the bats (something about the oils in your hands). If you're lucky you may get a close up of some of the pro bats being made or packaged. I got a close up of Luis Gonzalez and Jason Giambi. The last part is the gift shop. THere's some cool stuff, especially the bats, but save some money, because they give everyone a free mini bat at the end of the tour. Big spenders might enjoy a personalized regular bat to commemerate their visit. Side note-- The Louisville Bats play just a mile or so away, and they put on a pretty good show.
