    Baseball stadium -- 2003-06-22

Soemone complained about the parking near Uht park? I am a former Erieite who now lives smack dab in Wrigleyville here in Chicago. I live two blocks away from Wrigley field. Although I am a resident sometimes I can't even get parking when there's a game. And if I remember correctly parking is very, very inexpensive in Erie. I miss Erie and the prices. To see a game here you have to take out a loan!!!!!

    Nice -- 2002-07-10

This is a nice ballpark experience. Although it doesn't look like it, the neighborhood is apparently safe--I slept in my car (windows open) in the parking lot across the street overnight, and everything was quiet. None of the seats are covered. The noise level is nicely subdued and not overbearing. Concessions are on the inexpensive side.

Monday home games (Buck Night)!!!!! -- 2002-05-29

Every Monday Erie home game, there is $1 admission, $1 beer, $1 hot dogs, $1 popcorn, $1 peanuts, etc. This deal simply can't be beat anywhere in the country. The park also has the best seating of any park I have ever been to (major or minor league).

To that poster who complained about no parking......there is a parking garage 1/2 of a block from the stadium that charges a small fee, but for those who don't mind walking 1-3 blocks, you can always find free parking on the street. Parking is free on the street after 5:00 PM on weekdays, and all day on weekends. I have never had any problems.

Jerry Uht is a great place to catch a game -- 2001-08-01

Actually when I mentioned how much I was enjoying going to the park, one of the ushers suggested a trip to Akron to see what their stadium looks like -- and I will probably take him up on that next year.

In terms of this stadium being the greatest thing, or whatever, to Erie fans it is -- as compared to the garbgage heap that is Ainsworth Field. I honestly wonder how long before we hear stories about plans to add to the Uht tho, the current edition of the Seawolves draw fanz like crazy, but almost 7 thousand people on a dollar night promotion a few weeks back was about a thousand too many for a park of that size.

All in all it is a great place to see a game - as is evidenced by the various conversations I have had all year with a variety of out of town and even out of country fans.

    Nice Job Erie -- 2001-07-20

I loved this stadium. On one side is the downtown area, on the other is a residential section. Though the downtown is nice it does close at 6:00 p.m. There is parking right across the street for $3.00. As for the concessions, I loved the fact that they are manned by high school and college aged kids. The same for the ground crew, ball boys, etc. It gives the ballpark a young at heart atmosphere that I have not experienced at other venues. As for the park itself, it looks like four different sections pieced together. Much like some new major league stadiums. The scoreboard gives you up to the bat information on the players. The PA offered funny sound bites. Beyond left field is a community center where it is possible to watch from that viewpoint.

Uht Park is by no means a dump, or even as bad as "I would have you believe." It is really a nice place to watch a ballgame. My comments were merely to point out to the narrow-minded people who believe Uht is the best park in the world, where it actually isn't even close. As for Detroit, we parked across the street from the main entrance to the stadium, so how anyone could say there is no parking there is beyond me. Uht's concessions are comparable to other parks in the Eastern League, but when a family of any size can eat at Bob Evans, Kings, Perkins or Eat-n-Park for the same price as a ballpark, it is time to wonder about the markup of concessions at the ballparks. Again, Uht is not the dump that Ainsworth was, or even the antiquated stadiums the Erie Media may recall from their days of covering the New York Penn League, but it is not the Taj Mahal. Canal Park in Akron and Blair County in Altoona are both within a few hours drive. Those parks are the class of the 12 Eastern League Stadiums. Maybe Erie's media should go there and their rantings will cease.

    Very Impressed -- 2001-07-12

I too must disagree with Mr. Marion. We parked on the street in view of the entrance just an hour before gametime. Has Mr. Marion really been to all these parks he said he has? Ive been to a few myself and although its not the finest Uht is a beautifull facility. Sat behind the visitors dug out with an intimate view of the action and a great view of the city. Fell in love with the SeaWolves and the lake and Erie Penn. and am ready to move.

    Jerry Uht Park -- 2001-07-11

Mr. Marion must have never been to or has forgotten about that patheticly poor excuse for a ballpark that Erie minor leagee teams use to play in, namely Ainsworth Field. EVERYTHING about Jerry Uht park is better that what Erie use to have. Parking at old Ainsworth was what you could find on the street or having to pay to park in someone's back yard. Concessions consisted of a hotdog and a coke and maybe some chips or pretzels if they remembered to order them for that day's game. The "good" seats were hard and uncomfortable and, most annoyingly, behind a chain link fence. You could bring your lawn chair (more comfortable) but you had to put your lawn chair somewhere down the rightfield line and stair into the sun until it set.

Erie may be exaggerating a bit in saying that we have the best minor league stadium in the country but considering the dump Erie teams use to play in, Jerry Uht Park is a palace.

Mr. Marion should be counting his blessings that we have minor league baseball in Erie. Without Jerry Uht park there would be no big league team that would send their budding young players to Erie to blow out a knee at decaying old Ainsworth Field.

    Jerry Uht PARK-ing -- 2001-06-20

In regard to Mr. Marion's comment about the parking situation around Jerry Uht Park in Erie, I am somewhat confused. Evidently, the two large (for Erie) parking ramps, both situated one and a half blocks from the ballfield, have slipped his mind. I don't think it is possible to get your car much closer to a central city ballpark. (I know that it wasn't possible when I visited Boston or Detroit.) As to the prices, I admit a lack of knowledge about other minor league stadiums. However, I can say that everyone in my family of five can get good seats, something to eat and drink, and souvenirs for less than $50 (a price that I consider eminently reasonable). I am not saying that Uht does not have its drawbacks; I just don't think it is quite as bad as Mr. Marion would have you believe.

    Uht Park -- 2001-05-22

Living in Erie, I am constantly subjected to the rants and raves of local media and politicians about how Uht Park is the best minor league park in the entire country. They believe the facility is unmatched, but how many of them have been to another stadium? I have been to 50 Major League, AAA or AA stadiums and Uht would actually rank near the bottom in every category. Food prices are high, there is virtually nowhere to park, and the atmosphere of a half-empty stadium just does not get anyone excited. Canal Park in Akron and Blair County Ballpark in Altoona are similar stadiums in similar cities, yet games they are cheaper and more family-oriented, the parks are always at or near capacity and there are actually (imagine that!) places to park in a lot near the stadium. I'm not trying to say that Uht is a dump, but I think it is time people here in Erie realize that they have an average stadium that is poorly run. Or perhaps they should travel to more thqan one stadium before they begin calling it the best that has ever been constructed.
