WOW! -- 2001-06-13
After attending well over a thousand games in Bakersfield and Visalia, I couldn't believe what I was seeing from Highway 14 approaching "The Hanger" from the north. My wife and I drove over from Bakersfield during the first weekend of the season this year and we were stunned. I was so anxious to get inside the park I didn't care I was being charged $3 to park. The best seat in the house was only $6 with the senior discount. When we walked in to the stadium I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. (Remember now, all those games in Bakersfield and Visalia) Before the game started I wandered around and tried to find a bad seat. Couldn't do it! The Message Board behind the outfield fence was flanked by representations of the Space Shuttle....the place is very close to Edwards Air Force Base. When a Jethawk hits a homerun, sparks fly out of the tail section and aerial rockets are launched from the nosecone. And they have a hand operated scoreboard located in the rightfield fence. Concession prices are steep and if you are wondering what the difference between their $1.50 hot dog and their $3.00 hot dog is......it's a $1.50. I had one of each and no difference. They keep you entertained between innings and the PA guy is one of the best. The place opened back in 1995 but looks as if it just opened three days ago. It's a tough job maintaining anything out in the desert but the City of Lancaster has done a great job! The Califonia League vs. Carolina League Allstar game will be held there this year.
You won't be disappointed by this place.

First of all I hate the Antelope Valley, but that's just my own prejudice. The Hanger is an extreme hitters’ park where the wind actually blows out to centerfield, every night. The inside of the stadium itself is ok, but not remarkable. As in San Bernardino, you don’t want to get stuck down either of the lines. This place and High Desert are what give the Cal League its “hitters league” reputation. It’s too damn windy, there’s too much offense and Lancaster/Palmdale is a pit. Other than that, perfect.

Lancaster Stadium is in the heart of West Lancaster located near most entertainment businesses in the city. Located nearby is a 22 seat new Cinemark complex and several shopping Centers. There is a Black Angus resteraunt as well as a Love's BBQabout a mile south on Valley Central Way. Tickets are $5 - $7 generally, and concessions are a tad expensive like most parks. It is generally cold and windy during April games, mild through may, warm in June, then Hot in July and August. Temps well above 100 during late July and August are common, but usually very enjoyable at night games as it starts cooling down. The stadium itself is relatively new and very beautiful; It is a pleasure to watch a game there. The kids always have a good time, even if there not big baseball fans. There are approx 5000 seats, and of course they are all excellent. There is also grass seating available around $3. There is nothing bad to say about the experience, it is more fun in many ways than Major league baseball. Although a little expensive for a family of four or five, there are some promotions almost every night, and it is a far better deal than the bigs.
