I have to agree that Newark Bears games are fun and a great deal. We have an article on them at www.jerseycityuncovered.com

    Game Experience -- 2005-08-29

I have been a fan of the team since 2002 (Championship Year) and this team is just the best. Bears & Eagles Reiverfront Stadium is one of the most accessible stadium by any modes of transportation. Train, bus, Car, or whatever, you can reach it without any problem. Inside, the stadium's staff is extremely courteous and tthey'll help you with any problems or questions you have.

Where NOT to sit -- 2005-07-25

My husband and son went recently to a Bears game. The only advise I would have for people....don't sit too close. My son unfortunately learned the hard way. Yea, sure he got to keep the foul ball, but he also got to keep the most awful fat lip, bruised cheek and swoolen eye! Though he and his dad had a great time, it kind of ruined the day to be driven off in an ambulance to Newark University hospital. They are planning to go again, but will sit under the net next time.

    Stress Free Baseball -- 2005-05-31

I've been trying to drum up support for the Newark Bears among baseball fans for a few years. The message I try to convey that it is a stress free day / evening at the ballpark.

The reason it is so stress free is because it is easy to reach, right off of Route 280. The prices are inexpensive. For example, last Friday I had a "Buy one ticket get one ticket free" coupon from the local Entertainment book and paid $4.00 to park in the lot beyond right field. For a total of $11, my friend & I were able to park the car and both enter the ballpark!

As for autograph hunters, the place cannot be beat. Former MLBers litter the Atlantic League rosters and are easily accessible. I always walk away with a bounty of autographs (Rickey Henderson, Bill Madlock, Sparky Lyle, Butch Hobson, & Tom Herr to name a few). And there is always a chance of snatching a foul ball.

Part of the stress-free experience is actually a negative; the sparse crowds. It really pains me to see so few people. For instance, a gorgeous spring Sunday afternoon in 2004, future HOF Rickey Henderson is in left field, so close you can almost touch him and the ballpark is at less than 20% capacity. :(

Go to a Newark Bears game, bring a friend and you'll leave with a smile. I always do!

FYI: The aforementioned parking garage is mere steps from the ticket office and right field entrance. So, if you are concerned about the neighborhood, you shouldn't.

The Greatest Minor League Team in America -- 2004-08-23

The Bears have one of the greatest minor league histories ever (even with 50 year break) sporting players like Yogi Berra, and Rickey Henderson. The area is beautiful, the view is great, and the atmosphere is safe. Most people going to a Bear's game have been to Yankee Stadium, which is in an even worse neighborhood than Downtown Newark. THose who still have reservations about saftey, are bigoted or they have never been out of their suburban shells and believe that everything outside of small town USA is unsafe. Bottom line the Bears are great, the city is better, and the game will be great too. Support the Bears 2002 Atlantic League Champions, and forme little World Champions. Its a pity nobody realizes their awsome history.

    Great experience -- 2003-01-20

The whole Bears experience is great. The stadium is clean, tickets are cheap and the atmosphere is entertaining for families. Rick Cerone, former catcher who now owns NWK, frequently roams the stands and catching him = a great picture/autograph opportunity.

Forget all the stuff you've heard about the city. From the NJ Transit station it is about a ten minute walk through downtown Newark--en route are a few parks (not streets) and quite a few cops. If you use the garage you're right there. I assume the most concerned about safety is a family…which means you'd most likely be going on a weekend afternoon. So if you can't survive a weekend afternoon ten minute walk through Downtown Newark you're either weak or biased…very safe atmosphere (Newark is making a comeback)

    Good Quality Baseball -- 2002-04-21

I just want people to know that I have been to several Bears games and I was very impressed with the talent. These guys play their hearts out. It really is good quality baseball. I really had a nice time, and the atmosphere is very fan friendly. I recomend going to a Bears game to any true baseball fan who wants to see a good game. I recomend any Atlantic League game for that matter. The prices are great as compared what you would pay at a National or American league game. The last time I was there(Riverfront Stadium in Newark) I sat right in back of home plate for only 9 bucks! The Bears are really a major league quality team! I can think of at least 6 teams in the majors that the Bears would beat at any given day. As far as the stadium goes, it's very clean, every seat is a good seat, the food at the consessions is very tasty and fresh. It's a beautiful ballpark.

Support Newark Bewars baseball -- 2002-02-26

Nice stadium, fun games, cheap outting. Don't worry about the neighborhood, just drive to the indoor parking garage and walk across the street to the stadium.

From what I hear, they can really use the support!

    Surrounding Area -- 2001-08-27

A nice ballpark to watch a game with the kids and wife. I was not to comfortable with the immediate area that surrounds the stadium. The city element especially in Newark is not to attractive to families.

    Great Place -- 2001-07-23

One of the finest ballparks I've been to. Clean, wide open-you won't miss any of the game when you go for a snack. There are contests to sign up for, many food vendors, the team store, and a bunch of stuff for the kids. Tickets are cheap ($8.00 & $6.00). Go for the $6.00 seats, then sit wherever you want. The Bears aren't frequently sold out, so there's never a problem where you sit. For those of you worried about going to Newark, relax. Riverfront Stadium is located in the business district of Newark. The fans are great, the players sign autographs and chat with the fans, the employees are great, and the beer vendors fill the cup all the way up to the rim, with no foam!!!!
