How to get to Clipper Magazine Stadium -- 2005-08-17
Basically, you can get to the stadium from...
72 (Manheim Pike), Fruitville Pike, 501 (Lititz Pike), or 272 (Oregon Pike): You go south on those routes to Prince Street (From 501/272, you have to get on McGovern Street I belive its called. It will take you right to Prince Street Go down a few blocks, and you will see the stadium to your right.
From what I have heard so far, dont get to the stadium from the Harrisburg Pike, its a pain from what I am told.
From the south, I would not know, since I live in the western part of Lancaster County.
You can reach the above mentioned routes from Route 30

Could someone please show us exactly where the stadium is? We know it's Lancaster, but where?

Red Roses to Barnstormers -- 2005-05-24
Overall Rating: A-
Facility: A
Located in downtown Lancaster this new urban stadium is a gem. The red brick with green trim links the stadium to the neighborhood red brick industrial buildings out past center and right field.
The entrance to Clipper Magazine Stadium is impressive. The red bricks and iron gate give the visitor a warm feeling. When you enter the stadium take time to appreciate the large mural. There are two smaller entrances on both sides of the stadium.
The seating bowl is composed of box seats with plenty of leg room and cup holders. Sections are small offering fans easy access even if they are in the center of the section (Thank You!).
Above the seating bowl is a wide concourse with food courts, food stalls and bathrooms located on each side. Food selection is varied. Also available are water fountains, a must for those hot summer days.
To the left of the entrance is the gift store. It is roomy with a good selection of items and affordable prices. It might be a nice touch to add collectible items like game used bats or signed bats and balls.
Above the concourse are luxury boxes. A large well equipped kids zone complete with climbing hill is down the third base line. You can play all day for $3. On the first base side is a large party area offering a great view of the field. A nice touch is a small red barn located in the party section. The barn is a strong reminder of the agriculture roots of the region.
Grass berm (lawn) seating is available past the box seats down the third base line and behind left field. This is a popular viewing area and fans can be seen along the fence watching the game.
I was unable to make out the field dimensions at the stadium so I had to check the web site. The stadium is new and a work in progress with several modifications being planned (e.g. net to cover the kids zone).
Right field offers a mini monster, 17 feet high, complete with an on field video board that features a scoreboard and between innings ads. A larger scoreboard is located behind left field.
The only negative we saw is that the sun sets near the left field foul line. The team has mentioned changing the start times to compensate for this. If you attend a day game it won't be a problem but if you go to a night game think about getting seats along the third base line.
We had some concerns about parking. The web site helps but until you visit a stadium you don’t have a good feel for the place. We came early and parked just behind left field with no problems. There were numerous parking attendants on hand and if you need help you can ask them. Best advice to new fans is come early.
Atmosphere: A-
The crowds were large and vocal on our visit. The fans here are hungry for baseball and knowledgeable. Baseball was played here on a fairly regular basis from 1884 until 1955 when the League Champion Red Roses played in the Class B Piedmont League.
Everyone on the staff we talked to was friendly and helpful. Each usher is responsible for cleaning the seats in their section (they missed our section for a Sunday game) prior to game time.
IM Fun has brought his talents and ability to work the crowd with him from Frederick. The on field activities mirror those from Frederick. IM is fun to watch although Karen thought he had toned down the act.
Cylo, the mascot, is a funky cow like creature and no doubt other barnyard buddies will join her in the future. It would be a good idea to have Cylo more active in game day activities. This would not mean a demotion for IM Fun but more for Cylo to do. No reason the team could not have Cylo performing while IM Fun is active, think of it as a two-ring circus.
Playbills are given out free when fans enter the stadium.
Promotions
Musical Chairs Kids Sack race T-Shirt Toss – T-Shirts fired into crowd Pizza Scream Dance for your dinner Roll the dice for a TV Video cow race (either have interns dress in cow outfits or make it longer) Dirtiest car (window) on the lot Burrito eating contest Video ball shuffle Kids race the bases with toothbrushes Wave your CVS card and win Autographs in Playbill Operation game on video board Rally Roni (I love this one – buy box of Rally Roni and then shake it to root the team on)
How about “Let’s Make a Deal” or having Cylo race around the bases vs. a kid (especially with the toothbrush) or having the operation game played on the field where you take the 8 objects and divide in half and have a race where each person with a giant pair of tweezers takes their 4 items and the first one to get all of theirs to the other end of the field wins.
Value: A-
Great value. Lancaster is one of the top tourist destinations in the region and families will fall in love with the new ballpark. Come early and have fun. IM Fun is great with kids and there are many activities to keep everyone in the family happy and engaged.
Tickets
Dugout Box $9.00 Field Box $7.50 Lawn $5.00 (Youth and senior citizens are $3.00. Children under 4 are free)
Food
I agree with a friend from work that prices seem slightly high for the area…. BUT food quality is excellent (fries were nice and hot, hot dog was good, hamburger and ham from the carving station good as well)
Hamburger $4.50 Kunzler Hot dogs $2.50 $3.50 Peanuts $3.00 Soda $1.75 $3.00 $3.75 Soft serve ice cream $3.00 Bottled Water $2.75 Chicken tenders with fries $6.00 Beer $5.00 Fries $2.50/3.75
The carving station along the third base line offers a selection of meats for $6.00, with chips and a pickle, a great value.
Odds and Ends
The community section of the teams web page lists events that the club (or mascot) will be supporting/attending. It might be a good idea to mention some of these upcoming events prior to a game. I know minor league teams have lists of upcoming events that players can sign up for. It might be a good idea to mention what events players will be at. This ties the players and the team to the community.
More information on the players please. Why not feature player profiles before a game. Have them talk about what they like and don't like, it could make for a fun interview. When Karen went up to get an autograph from a player at the autograph booth on Sunday the player was so into with talking to a team representative that he ignored the fans.
The team had a setup for various youth activities just outside the main gate for the two games we attended. Reading has their Mascot band on hand for selected games and it is a joy to listen to them play before the gates open up. Hopefully Lancaster can offer other activities/music to fans prior to a game.
It would be nice to have a seating area with picnic tables on the concourse set up for fans. Harrisburg and Reading both offer these and they would be a blessing to older fans or those with young children in tow. The team could even offer post game entertainment on the weekend.
Stadiums like Manchester and Lowell offer free face paintings, drawings and clowns on selected days. It would be a big draw here too.
Player numbers on lineup board would also be nice.
Having vinegar for the fries, brown mustard for the hot dogs and a little more ice cream in the cone (kind of skimpy on the one I got) would be nice as well.
