This park was built for the Astros and Tusculum College on the campus at Tusculum. It opened in 2004, and I visited for one game.

Available seats are plentiful for most Appalachian League parks, and usually it takes only a couple minutes to buy tickets. On this night, though, a looonnnngggg line waited to buy tickets for the game with fireworks following. This was the first year Greeneville had professional baseball, so the community really was enthused about their new team.

The park has more box seats than any Appalachian League park I've seen -- in fact, it's very comparable to many new minor league parks at higher levels. This is due to generous contributions by a local businessman. The box seats extend from behind home plate to just beyond first and third bases on both sides. My friend and I had to sit on the grass berm down the third base line as did many other people since the box seats were sold out.

It's a beautiful field for this level of play, and you almost forget you're at an Appalachian League game. Beer is sold on the concourse which also gives it a non-Appy League feel since most of the parks in East Tennessee don't provide alcohol. However, I witnessed no alcohol-related problems that would keep someone from taking their kids.

I'd certainly recommend a visit to this ballpark.
