Stadium Review for 2003 -- 2003-09-20
Overall Rating: A
Facility C
The stadium could use some work. There is a small section of box seats behind home plate. Most of the seats are bench seats with no backs and run down the third base line. There is a small visitor’s section on the first base line with the same bench seats. Like Asheville the veterans come early with their folding chairs and sit on the top row. Netting covers the field separating the fans from the players, I didn’t like that feature. The outfield is deep making this appear to be a pitchers park. The souvenir store while small had a very good selection, far better then Johnson City or Kingsport. The bathrooms could need some rehab. It was a large crowd when we visited and the parking lot could use some lined parking spaces.
Atmosphere A
We were taken back by the sense of community here. The crowd was large and into the game, cheering for the home nine. It was Christmas in July and Santa, the Grinch and others were on hand. It was a fun night and we will treasure our memories. The kids and adults received clickers and they were used during the night and the next day some could be heard at Johnson City when they hosted the E-Twins. They gave out mints and gum during the game. A lot of lucky numbers but sadly none for us.
Value A+
Wow, Danos would have a heart attack if he saw the food and ticket prices. But it is a different market, right? Tickets are $5 for box seats and $3 for GA. A season pass is just $50. Food was great and the prices, hot-dog $1.50, peanuts .50, popcorn .50, and nachos and chili and cheese $2. The team has several free nights, which is great. The souvenir prices are very good, shop here.
Odds and Ends
This is a special place for us and we look forward to returning.
On our first visit we drove up only to discover that the game had been rained out. The General Manager was nice enough to open the souvenir store for us and a couple of other fans that were also in town. He invited us back (even though it was a free night) so we dropped Bristol from our schedule and came back. In many ways the stadium reminds us of our visits to New Market and Front Royal.
The stadium isn't the best but the staff works hard. If you want to see how fun the game can be visit this place.
Thanks Mike!

Cozy little park on the river. Cost is minimal ($5, I think), but the best deal is to buy season passes that get you in to games in Bristol, Elizabethon, and Johnson City. An extra dollar for box seats rather than sitting on the concrete bleachers. In recent years the Twins have been the best team in the south of the Appy League so the level of play is good.
