Expanded September Lineups

Filed under: Game FindersSky @ 10:53 am

With September only two weeks away, I was interested to see how many hitters from a 40-man dugout managed to play in the same game. Since NL box scores include pitchers in the lineup, I limited my search to AL games since 1973.

  1. “Since NL box scores include pitchers in the lineup, I limited my search to AL games.”

Every single game on your list is pre-DH and include pitchers.

  2. There was a time when the AL didn’t use a DH!? ; )

Thanks for pointing that out, Oscar — the post has been changed.

  4. Hah, and Shane Halter’s game comes up again. They must’ve had to keep replacing his position over and over and over.

  5. It’s funny but the box score of the game (played on September 19, 1972) shows Athletics outfielder Brandt Alyea pinch hitting in the ninth inning and drawing a walk. Yet Alyea is clearly listed as having played the last game of his career on July 20, 1972(and that was for the St. Louis Cardinals). How is that possible?

  6. Jack,

I’m sure it is a mistake one place or the other. I’ll take a look at it.
