Jim had 31 hits, one of which, on July 9, 1969, ended Tom Seaver's perfect-game bid with one out in the ninth. It wasn't a cheap hit. Next season, I met Jim before a Toledo Mud Hens game. He talked about the hit and was nice to a geeky 13-year-old.
