June 6, 1972: Drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 8th round of the 1972 amateur draft, but did not sign.

January 7, 1976: Drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 1st round (7th pick) of the 1976 amateur draft (January Secondary).

February 16, 1982: Sent by the Baltimore Orioles to the Cincinnati Reds to complete an earlier deal made on February 9, 1982. The Baltimore Orioles sent a player to be named later to the Cincinnati Reds for Paul Moskau.

June 30, 1983: Traded by the Cincinnati Reds to the Detroit Tigers for Pat Underwood.

November 21, 1983: Purchased by the Cincinnati Reds from the Detroit Tigers.

March 31, 1986: Traded by the Cincinnati Reds to the Montreal Expos for a player to be named later and Norm Charlton. The Montreal Expos sent Tim Barker (minors) (April 2, 1986) to the Cincinnati Reds to complete the trade.
