June 5, 1979: Drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 34th round of the 1979 amateur draft.

October 8, 1979: Sent by the Texas Rangers to the New York Yankees to complete an earlier deal made on August 1, 1979. The Texas Rangers sent players to be named later, Amos Lewis (minors) and Oscar Gamble to the New York Yankees for players to be named later and Mickey Rivers. The Texas Rangers sent Ray Fontenot (October 8, 1979) and Gene Nelson (October 8, 1979) to the New York Yankees to complete the trade. The New York Yankees sent Bob Polinsky (minors) (October 8, 1979), Neal Mersch (minors) (October 8, 1979) and Mark Softy (minors) (October 8, 1979) to the Texas Rangers to complete the trade.

December 4, 1984: Traded by the New York Yankees with Brian Dayett to the Chicago Cubs for Porfi Altamirano, Rich Bordi, Henry Cotto and Ron Hassey.
