June 10, 1961: Traded by the Kansas City Athletics with Ray Herbert, Don Larsen and Al Pilarcik to the Chicago White Sox for Wes Covington, Stan Johnson, Bob Shaw and Jerry Staley.

December 15, 1961: Traded by the Chicago White Sox with Frank Barnes to the Philadelphia Phillies for Taylor Phillips and Bob Sadowski. Andy Carey refused to report to his new team on March 24, 1962. The Philadelphia Phillies sent Lou Vassie (minors) (March 24, 1962) to the Chicago White Sox to complete the trade.
