First baseman Young-hun Cho debuted with the Samsung Lions in 2005, going 1 for 4 with a walk. In 2006, he hit .283/~.345/.399 in 88 games, but he fell to .168/~.237/.213 in 66 contests in 2007.
Cho then entered the South Korean military. In the 2009 Baseball World Cup, he hit .214/.371/.357 as South Korea's starting first baseman. He also stole two bases in three times. He led the team in OBP and in walks (7 in 9 games). His highlight was a home run off former Giants farmhand Armando Hernández to get South Korea going en route to a win over Nicaragua.
