Yoani Delgado is the son of Olympic Gold Medalist José R. Delgado and is the cousin of Lourdes Gourriel, Luis Enrique Gourriel, Yulieski Gourriel and Yuniesky Gourriel. Like his father, Delgado is a catcher for Sancti Spíritus; unfortunately, he is stuck behind Eriel Sánchez, meaning that Delgado frequently plays first base and DH as well.

Delgado had hit .239/.364/.404 through 2006-2007. He batted .273/~.363/.531 in 2007-2008 with nine home runs in 128 AB, a better home run rate than more famed teammates like Sánchez, Frederich Cepeda and Yulieski Gourriel.
