Ying-Feng Tsai is a pitcher for the La New Bears. He throws a curveball, cutter, forkball, slider, sinker and fastball (timed as high as 92 mph).
Tsai allowed one run in two innings in the 2002 Haarlem Baseball Week. In the 2003 World Port Tournament, he went 2-0 with a 1.35 ERA. He struggled in the 2003 Baseball World Cup, going 0-1 with a 7.71 ERA and allowing 8 hits in 4 2/3 IP. He pitched in the 2004 World University Championship. In the 2005 Baseball World Cup, he was 1-1 with a 1.88 ERA and gave up just 6 hits in 14 1/3 IP but he had the advantage of facing the two weakest teams in Taiwan's pool - the Czech Republic and Colombia (which beat him). In the 2006 World Baseball Classic, he surrendered one run in 2 2/3 IP in a solid outing against the Japanese national team.
Tsai made his pro debut in 2006 and was a solid Rookie of the Year candidate, with a 11-5, 3.36 record for the La New Bears. In 2007, he was 4-3 with a 3.64 ERA.
