Yadier Pedroso González

Yadier Pedroso has been a member of the Cuban national team on occasion. He is the son of José M. Pedroso.

Pedroso was a star in the 2004 World Junior Championship, going 2-0 with a 0.50 ERA to help Cuba win Gold. In the finale, he threw a 1-hit shutout against Japan, beating Yu Darvish. He made the tournament All-Star team and also took home MVP honors. He debuted in Cuban league play for La Habana in 2004-2005 and was 11-4 with a 2.47 ERA as a rookie. In the finals, he went the distance in game six, dropping a 2-1 pitching duel to Ormari Romero of Santiago de Cuba.

He was Cuba's worst hurler in the 2005 Baseball World Cup, allowing 2 runs in 2 1/3 innings in his senior national team debut.

In 2005-2006, Pedroso went 8-5 with a 3.63 ERA. In the 2006 World Baseball Classic, he allowed two runs in 5 innings spread out over three games. He allowed 4 runs in 1 1/3 IP in the COPABE qualifier for the 2008 Olympics but Cuba still advanced to Beijing. Pedroso was 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA and 11 strikeouts in 8 innings during the 2006 Central American and Caribbean Games. Pedroso was 7-7 with a 3.69 ERA in the 2006-2007 Serie Nacional. In 2007-2008, Yadier's record was 8-3 with a 2.73 ERA; in 105 1/3 innings, he fanned 106 and allowed 81 hits. He tied for 5th in the league in ERA and was second in strikeouts, five behind Yulieski González. He was 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA in the 2008 Haarlem Baseball Week and remained with Cuba for the 2008 Olympics. In Beijing, he struggled in his lone start, allowing 6 hits and 2 runs in 3 innings against the Dutch national team; Cuba rallied to win after he left.

Pedroso starred in 2008-2009, going 9-3 with a 1.91 ERA. He fanned 114 in 113 innings while allowing 89 hits. He led the league in ERA, .031 over Yuniesky Maya, and was third in strikeouts behind Aroldis Chapman and Maya. Maya beat him out for honors as the All-Star RHP.

In the 2009 World Port Tournament, Pedroso allowed one run and two hits in 7 innings, fanning nine as Cuba won the title.
