The Junior World Championship has been played since 1981 as the premier international competition players under 18 years of age. It was an annual event until 1997, played in 1999 and 2000 and after that, it was played every other year until becoming annual again starting in 2013. Numerous future All-Stars from Major League Baseball, the Cuban National League, Nippon Pro Baseball and other circuits have played in the event over the years. The event has also been known as the "AAA" World Championship, 18U Baseball World Championship and 18U Baseball World Cup. It is organized by the IBAF.
