In 1883, the Wilmington Quicksteps were 27-48 in the Interstate Association. Managed by Charlie Waitt, then John McHugh, and finally Fergy Malone, the team finished 5th in the 7 team league.
In 1884, the Wilmington Quicksteps were members of the Eastern League. Managed by Joe Simmons, the team went 50-12, easily the best record in the league, when they jumped to the Union Association on August 12. Oyster Burns was still able to lead the EL in runs (107) and HR (11), while Dan Casey led the league wih a .833 winning percentage.
