Wid Matthews scouted for the St. Louis Cardinals from 1937 to 1943 and was director of scouts for the Brooklyn Dodgers from 1946 to 1949. He was the General Manager of the Chicago Cubs from 1950 to 1956. Matthews scouted for the Milwaukee Braves in 1957-1958 and for the New York Mets from 1962 to 1964. He was also the farm director of the Mets in 1963. Matthews then scouted for the California Angels in 1965.
