Weiliang Li has pitched for the Chinese national team at times. He appeared in the 2003 Asian Championship and then was in the 2005 Asia Series. In the 2007 Arizona Fall League, Li allowed 8 hits and 6 runs (all unearned!) in two innings. In the 2008 Olympics, he had a 5.48 ERA in three outings, placing him 3rd on the host China staff in ERA among hurlers to work at least one full inning; only Chenhao Li and Jiangang Lu were lower. Li was on the Chinese roster for the 2009 World Baseball Classic. In the Classic, Weiliang relieved Kai Liu in the 7th inning against South Korea. Li gave up a Jong-wook Lee single to score inherited runner Ki-hyuk Park. He then got Young-min Ko and Hyun-soo Kim to fly out to end the inning. It was his only appearance of the Classic.
