Wayne Cage played 65 games in the majors, slugging over .400.

Cage was born in Monroe, LA, in the northern part of the state, and attended high school in Ruston, LA, not far from Monroe. Selected in the third round of the 1971 amateur draft, Wayne played ten seasons in the minors, beginning in 1971 and ending in 1980.

His best year with the bat in the minors was 1978, when he hit .368 and slugged .661 in 77 games for the Portland Beavers. He showed significant power in his last four minor league seasons.

Wayne started out in the minors as a pitcher, and during 1971-1972 he pitched 52 innings with a 3.63 ERA. Thereafter, he was primarily a first baseman.

Coming up to the majors in April 1978, he appeared in 36 games for the Cleveland Indians, slugging .449. The team slugging percentage was .379.

After his days in the majors and minors he played in Japan for the Hankyu Braves.

Through 2009, he has been the only major leaguer with the last name Cage.
