On September 5, 1914, Walt Johnson gave up Babe Ruth's only minor league home run in the middle of a 9-0 loss by Toronto (International League) to Ruth's Providence team. Ruth also pitched a one-hitter that day.
Walt Johnson had three cups of coffee as a pitcher with the Chicago White Sox and Philadelphia Athletics. He served in World War I and continued pitching in the minor leagues until 1922. He became a plumber for the Dayton Company (now the Target Corporation.). He died at age 72 and is buried at Hillside Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.
