The Walla Walla Phillies had been known as the Walla Walla Bears in 1969. The club was managed by Garry Powel to a 39-41 record, second in the three-team Northern Division of the Northwest League. They drew 32,043 fans, second in the league and only 277 behind the Tri-City Padres. They were outscored 469-458 and had two All-Stars, 1B Bob Beall and OF Lloyd Hutchinson. Beall hit .389/~.552/.569 and led the NWL in average, OBP, presumably slugging, walks (95 in 80 games) and runs (81). Hutchinson hit .307/~.378/.526 and led the league with 151 total bases; his 14 homers tied him for the most and his 64 RBI were one off of thje league lead.

In '71, the Phillies outscored the other team 391-344 and went 47-32, second in the North and second overall. They drew the most fans, 32,195. OF Dane Iorg and C John Dusenberry were the All-Stars. Iorg (.367/~.468/.542) led the league in average and tied for the lead with 15 triples while Dusenberry batted .308/~.357/.407. Larry Kiser (7-4, 2.86) was second in the NWL in ERA while Don Kreke (8-2, 3.45) finished fifth.

They became the Walla Walla Islanders in 1972.
