Between being the Walla Walla Phillies and Walla Walla Padres, the team from Walla Walla spent one year (1972) as the Walla Walla Islanders, one of the most recent minor league teams to be an affiliate of another minor league club. They drew 37,604 fans, third in the league, and were third in record (41-39), best in the southern division. They outscored the competition 381-366. Jack Spring managed the team, which had one All-Star, SS Jim Van Wyck (.291/~.408/.356. Dave Paynter (8-5, 2.95) was third in the league in ERA and led in strikeouts (150 in 131 IP). The most famous names on the club in retrospect were future actor and 2B Kurt Russell (.325/~.402/.377) and future manager and C Tom Trebelhorn (.202/~.322/.306).
