Waddy Macphee played a couple games in baseball's National League and ten games in professional football for the 1926 Providence Steam Roller.
Macphee had been at Princeton University in 1919-22, overlapping with the time that Moe Berg spent at Princeton. He came up to the majors in September 1922, hitting .286 and slugging .571 in two games for manager John McGraw. The Giants went on to win the 1922 World Series.
Macphee played third base, making one error. The regular at third base was Heinie Groh, while Frankie Frisch also played 53 games there.
An article in the April 20, 1922 edition of the New York Times indicates that Macphee was chosen captain of the Princeton baseball team. He also earned letters in football and hockey. He went to Erasmus High School in Brooklyn. At Princeton he played mostly second base but also some shortstop.
A number of football references indicate that Macphee went to Brooklyn College, The City University of New York, but the New York Times mentioned only his several years at Princeton.
