[edit] Biographical Information
Curveball pitcher Virgil Thompson played for Team USA in the 1938 Amateur World Series. He was Team USA's starting pitcher in the first game of the series and thus the first player ever to pitch in an international tournament for the United States. He was 6-5 with a 6.60 ERA for the 1940 Hot Springs Bathers. In 1941, he went 12-12 with a 5.69 ERA for two teams in the Cotton States League.
