Mata managed the DSL Yankees/Padres in 1993.
Mata has also scouted for the New York Yankees and been the Yankees' Latin American Field Coordinator. He signed Ivan Nova, Hector Noesi, Yhency Brazoban, Melky Cabrera, Maximo Nelson, Joaquín Arias and Eduardo Nunez for New York.
