[edit] Biographical Information

Vicente Amor a young 17 year old from Cuba started his professional baseball career unattached and spent the 1950 season in the Longhorn League with the Big Spring Broncs. The youngster would go 6-5 in 20 appearences, pitching 95 innings with a 3.79 ERA. He would spend four more seasons on the loose before the Chicago Cubs drafted Amor on November 22, 1954 from Oakland (PCL) in the rule 5 draft.

Amor had just come off his best season of professional pitching in 1954 with the Oklahoma City Indians of the Texas League, winning 18 and losing 11, appearing in 41 games, pitching 245 innings with a 4.11 ERA.

Vicente spent 1955 with the Havana Sugar Kings going 5-4 with a 3.27 ERA. He also was with the 1955 Chicago Cubs for 4 games, going 0-1 and a 4.50 ERA. He was to stay in the minors in 1956 and the 1957 Cincinnati Redlegs got him in an unknown transaction before the season started, he was with the Havana Sugar Kings this year, going 11-10 with a 2.68 ERA. Amor also was with the Redlegs for nine games, winning 1 and losing 2 in 27 innings pitched, with a 5.93 ERA.

He was again with the Havana Sugar Kings in 1958 going 3-9 with a 5.19 ERA. Amor stayed right there in 1959, going 9-8 with a 4.57 ERA. This was to be his last year on the circuit and he finished a ten year career with a very decent record.

Vicente lives in Hialeah, FL, where he owns a business that produces electrical signs.

He was born in Cuba in the same year as Mike Fornieles and Chico Fernandez.
