Vedie Himsl was a Chicago Cubs coach from 1960 to 1964 and managed the team for 32 games in 1961 as part of the "College of Coaches" experiment. He was the Cubs' Director of Scouting, a job he held from 1965 until he retired in 1985. He continued to help the scouting department through 1999.
Himsl also managed the 1950-1951 Hamilton Cardinals, 1957 Pulaski Cubs, 1961 Wenatchee Chiefs and 1964 Salt Lake City Bees. He also piloted the Cubs teams in the 1962, 1964 and 1968 Arizona Instructional league.
At St. John's University of Collegeville, Minnesota, in 1937, he struck out 20 batters pitching against Augsburg, a St. John's record that still stands.
