Nebraska-Omaha was known as Municipal University of Omaha until 1968. The Mavericks have had only 3 head coaches in school history, Virgil Yelkin, Bob Gates, and Bob Herold. Yelkin missed part of 1952 for military service, part of 1970 due to illness, and was helped most of 1976 by Dave Benedict, father of Bruce Benedict.
