Tyrone Lamont

Tyrone Lamont pitched two years in the minor leagues. He signed with the Seattle Mariners in 2003. He made his pro debut in 2004, going 1-1 with a 3.31 ERA and .208 opponent average in 13 games for the AZL Mariners. In 2005, he struck out 30 in 31 innings for the AZL Mariners and was 1-2 with a 4.65 ERA.

Lamont pitched for South Africa in the 2006 World Baseball Classic. Against Team Canada, he relieved Barry Armitage in the 5th with a 1-0 deficit, one out and two on. He struck out Justin Morneau but then yielded a 2-run double to Matt Stairs. He walked Corey Koskie but recovered to strike out Pete LaForest on a full count. In the 6th, now protecting a 4-3 lead, he gave up an Aaron Guiel double but retired Adam Stern, Pete Orr and Stubby Clapp to escape further harm. In the 7th inning, he gave up a Jason Bay double. Morneau doubled in Bay to tie the game. After a pop-out by Stairs, Koskie hit a 2-run homer and Jared Elario replaced Lamont.

Also in the 2006 WBC, Lamont faced Team USA, relieving Armitage with a 16-0 deficit in the 4th. He got Johnny Damon to line out, but Derek Jeter tripled and Ken Griffey Jr. singled him home. Lamont struck out Alex Rodriguez on a full count then got Chipper Jones to end the inning. Elario relieved him in the 5th.
