[edit] Biographical Information
George "Tug" Wilson played in the 1884 American Association. Although that was his only playing time in the majors, he played in the minors through 1896 and at one point was purchased by the 1889 Indianapolis Hoosiers, although he did not appear for them.
Wilson was one of several catchers used by the 1884 Atlantics. He also played outfield and some other infield positions for the team. His batting average of .232 was higher than the team average of .225.
He was not called Tug Wilson by the press, but rather George Wilson. However, he is not to be confused with a variety of George Wilsons who played in the minors, not with the later major leaguer George Wilson nor with Les "Tug" Wilson.
