Tufts University has sponsored baseball since 1865. The school was known as Tufts College until 1955. Jim Lonborg is not usually listed as a player who went to Tufts, because he was an undergraduate at Stanford University. However, after his playing career he decided to become a dentist, and got his degree from the Tufts Dental School. As of 2005, he was still practicing as a dentist. In a similar vein, Andy Spognardi studied at Tufts Medical School after his playing career. Jack Slattery also went to dental school year after he had already begun his MLB career.
Hod Ford has the most major league at-bats of any player out of Tufts (through 2007).
