- Nixon's father, William, grew up with Catfish Hunter, and was Hunter's high school catcher (according to the 1994 Almanac).
- Appeared in the movie Fever Pitch as himself.
- In a newspaper interview Nixon called Alex Rodriguez a clown in response to A-Rod's claims of a superior work ethic in Sports Illustrated.
- On July 15, 2005, Nixon hit an inside-the-park 3-run homer in a 17-1 Red Sox victory against the Yankees in Fenway Park.
