Trevor Caughey has pitched in the minor leagues, Czech Republic, Europe and Spain.
Caughey was taken by the Baltimore Orioles in the 18th round of the 2001 amateur draft out of high school. After a year of college, Baltimore chose him in the 9th round of the 2002 amateur draft; this time, he signed. The Sacramento native was 1-4 with a 4.87 ERA for the 2002 GCL Orioles, fanning 45 in 40 2/3 innings. In 2003, the left-hander had a 1-7, 4.84 record for the Bluefield Orioles, with 64 strikeouts in 57 2/3 innings. He led the Appalachian League in losses, was second in runs allowed (41) and third in strikeouts (64, between Yusmeiro Petit and Rafael Perez).
Trevor split 2004 between the Delmarva Shorebirds (4-2, 3 Sv, 3.14) and Frederick Keys (0-1, 6.17 in 4 G). He returned to Frederick in 2005 and struggled some more (5-1, Sv, 6.31) then split 2006 between the Keys (2-1, 5.50 in 25 G) and Shorebirds (1-1, 6.75 in 6 G). Let go by Baltimore, he finished the year with the independent Chico Outlaws (1-0, 2.12).
In 2007, Caughey bounced around the independent leagues - he made stops with the Amarillo Dillas (0-1, 5.87), Kansas City T-Bones (0-4, 5.85) and Orange County Flyers (3.86 in 12 G). He was 8-5 with a 2.51 ERA for Chico in 2008. He was named the Golden Baseball League Pitcher of the Year, leading in ERA (.92 over Eric Van Slyke) and finishing second in wins. He played for the Edmonton Capitals in 2009 but fell to 3-6, 5.49.
Caughey was with Technika Brno in the Czech Extraliga in 2010, going 9-2 with a 1.87 ERA and fanning 103 in 106 innings. He was second to former major leaguer Pat Ahearne in ERA, second in innings (behind Leoš Kubát), led in strikeouts (edging out Kubát by five) and was third in wins (behind Kubát and Petr Minařík). He pitched for the Perth Heat when they won the 2010-2011 Australian Baseball League.
He signed with Spain's Astros Valencia for 2011.
