Known for his cowboy hat and nicknamed "The Cowboy", Tracy Ringolsby has covered baseball for a number of sources since 1976. After the Rocky Mountain News ceased to exist, Ringolsby wrote for foxsports.com, Baseball America and PBR Magazine. He also became a pregame and postgame show host for FSN Network and has appeared on MLB Network.
Ringolsby is a past president of the BBWAA. He is a pioneer in the coverage of minor league players and baseball's labor situation. He has fought to have scouts recognized for induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
In 2005, Ringolsby incited a minor controversy when he admitted he did not vote for Wade Boggs for induction to the Hall of Fame. Also in 2005, Ringolsby was awarded the Spink Award for his work covering baseball.
