[edit] Biographical Information
Tony Roig had a long and varied pro baseball career. He started in the minors in 1948 as a pitcher. Converted to an outfielder and then an infielder, he played through 1962 with a break in the military during 1951-52. He was up in the majors during 1953 and 1955-56, and after his baseball career in the U.S. he went to Japan to play. He hit 126 home runs during a 6 year career in Japan while playing for the Nishitetsu Lions and the Kintetsu Buffaloes.
Roig managed the Newark Co-Pilots in 1975-76. He also scouted for the Milwaukee Brewers (1974-1978), California Angels (1979-1980), and Philadelphia Phillies (1981-??).
Tony didn't have a high major league batting average but then he backed up Jose Valdivielso, who also hit under .250.
