Anthony Lucadello

Shortstop Tony Lucadello hit .290 in 85 games for the 1936 Fostoria Cardinals while making 53 errors. He got into 26 games for the Tiffin Mud Hens the next year, hitting .300 and making 9 errors in 25 games in the field.

Lucadello's real claim to fame was as a scout who worked for the Chicago Cubs (1942-54) and the Philadelphia Phillies (1955-89). He is credited with signing fifty players who made it to the major leagues. He was their scout in the upper midwest, primarily scouting Ohio and Indiana. He also scouted Ontario and Michigan. Among his signees are two Hall of Famers, Mike Schmidt and Ferguson Jenkins both for Philadelphia. He also signed Mike Marshall, Toby Harrah, Alex Johnson, and Jim Brosnan.

Lucadello died in 1989 after shooting himself on the mound of the ballfield in Fostoria where he played Class D ball in the 1930s.
