Tommy Sandt played only 42 games in the majors, but he had a long career in baseball, as a minor league player, minor league coach and manager, and major league coach. He was big league coach under skipper Jim Leyland with the Pittsburgh Pirates for a decade, from 1987 to 1996. He then was a member of Leyland's staff with the Florida Marlins in 1997 and 1998 and the Colorado Rockies in 1999. He was again a Pirates coach from 2000 to 2002.
Tommy played for the Santurce Crabbers of the Puerto Rico Winter Baseball League during the 1976-77 season.
