Tom O'Brien played in three different major leagues, at eight different positions - everywhere but shortstop. His best year with the bat was in the 1884 Union Association.
He served as a minor league manager for at least 14 seasons after his retirement as a player.
He is not to be confused with another Tom O'Brien or with a Tommy O'Brien.
