Tom Hughes pitched a perfect nine innings in a game in 1910, but lost in extra innings. Later, in 1916, he pitched a no-hitter in which the last batter was Honus Wagner.
Hughes also played briefly for the Miracle Braves in 1914. In 1915 he led the league in saves for the Braves (also winning 16 games) and in 1916 he went 16-3 and was second in the league in saves.
He pitched for Rochester in 1912, going 17-10.
There are several major leaguers who have had the name "Tom Hughes", so this one is often known as "Salida Tom Hughes" to distinguish him.
His brother Ed Hughes came up first in 1902 as a catcher and 1905 as a pitcher.
