Pitcher Tom Hughes played two seasons for his hometown Chicago Orphans (later the Cubs) before jumping to the new American League in 1902. He had his best season with the Boston Americans (later the Red Sox) in 1903 when he went 20-7 and appeared in the inaugural World Series.
Hughes died of pneumonia at age 77.
