[edit] Biographical Information

Pitcher "Long Tom" Hughes played two seasons for his hometown Chicago Orphans (later the Cubs) before jumping to the new American League in 1902. He had his best season with the Boston Americans (later the Red Sox) in 1903 when he went 20-7 and appeared in the inaugural World Series.

His minor league career ran from 1898-1926. He set a team record in 1910 when he won 31 games for the Minneapolis Millers.

Hughes died of pneumonia at age 77.

He is called "Long Tom Hughes" to distinguish him from his contemporary "Salida Tom" Hughes.
