[edit] Biographical Information
"Looking back, the third no-hitter I threw was the toughest because it came against a Las Vegas team that featured Carlos Baerga, Sandy Alomar, Shane Mack, Thomas Howard and Jerald Clark. I'm not a no-hitter-type of pitcher. They just kind of happened." - Tom Drees
Tom Drees made news in 1989 when he was with Vancouver of the Pacific Coast League. He threw three no hitters during the 1989 season. His no hitters on May 23 and May 28 were consecutive, but the May 28 no hitter was a seven inning game as part of a doubleheader. He had come off shoulder surgery from the previous season.
In spite of his three no hitters that season, he did not get called up to the major league team that year.
His one major league cup of coffee was in 1991 at age 28 with the 1991 Chicago White Sox. He was a year older than shortstop Ozzie Guillen, five years older than Frank Thomas, who was in his first major league season, and six years older than Sammy Sosa, who hit .203 with 10 home runs in 316 at-bats for the White Sox that season.
He had a hip injury and retired after the 1993 season. He became a stockbroker who has numerous baseball clients.
- After his consecutive no hitters, he was on the cover of Baseball America.
