Tom Cantrell played in the minors then became a college coach (winning over 600 games).

Cantrell hit .332 as a college freshman, then .362 as a sophomore. The Atlanta Braves took him in the 8th round of the January 1985 amateur draft. He hit only .214/.303/.290 for the GCL Braves that summer, fielding .893 at short with almost as many errors (23) as runs produced (26). He was much better the next year, hitting .276/.445/.382 with 61 walks in 61 games and 13 steals in 15 tries for the Pulaski Braves. He fielded .965 in the outfield, his new primary position. He led the Appalachian League in bases on balls as Pulaski won the pennant.
Returning to DeKalb, he was assistant coach from 1991-1995, then head coach from 1996-1999. He was 177-52 as head coach and went to the Junior College World Series for the first time in 21 years (doing so in 1998). He was named head coach of North Georgia College and State University in 2000 and was 441-236 after 11 years there. He won Peach Belt Conference Coach of the Year in 2007 after a 34-22 campaign.
Cantrell coached Marlon Byrd, Nick Green and Robby Hammock in college and Adam Everett and Michael Barrett in summer baseball.
