[edit] Biographical Information

Tom Butters pitched four years for the Pittsburgh Pirates. In the year when he had his most innings, 1946, he had a 2.38 ERA.

His career ended as a result of an auto accident which impeded his pitching.

Butters was the head coach at Duke University from 1968 to 1970 and served for many years there as athletic director. In that role he hired coaches for various sports, and thus had a role in the great success of Duke's basketball team.

SABR has a biography of him.
